Dear President Obama,
I'm very worried about the likely impact of climate change on developing nations like Bangladesh. [INSERT A FEW SENTENCES OF FACTS HERE. EXPLAIN WHY YOU'RE WORRIED, AND WHY HE SHOULD BE TOO. MAKE IT PERSONAL.]
Please instruct your negotiators at the Copenhagen Climate Conference to fight for a science-based plan that can reduce CO2 in the atmosphere back down to a safe 350 parts per million. Leading scientists warn that anything less could mean environmental catastrophe. The environment doesn't care about people's political differences. As you said during your campaign, "the issue of climate change is one that we ignore at our own peril."
If we don't do anything, the poorest residents of nations like Bangladesh will suffer the most from climate change, even though they're the least responsible for creating the problem. We need to listen to people from these communities, and help innocent victims there deal with a problem we helped create here. Taking responsibility is an American value.
I hope you will fight for the environment and the innocent victims of climate change. I know you might face opposition from some people and corporations, but if you stand up for your values, my family, friends, and neighbors will support you all the way. The faster we act, the more we can limit the potential harm. Thank you.
Sincerely,
